INTERACT CLUB HISTORY

The North Reading High School Interact Club was established sometime in 1999 or 2000, according to Past Presidents, Committee Members and current members of the North Reading Rotary Club, These same Rotarians also indicated that the Interact Club, at one time, had up to 145 members.

However in 2006, after six years of active a dedicated community service, the annual report indicating the new in-coming Interact Officers was submitted to Rotary International and, unfortunately, this Club Officer up-date was returned, by Rotary International, indicating that they had no record of the North Reading Rotary Club or the North Reading High School having an Interact Club. This sad turn of events started a massive search for records, none of which were located. It became apparent that the original Charter Application had been lost someplace during its submission and no one ever found out about it until 2006

We are happy to announce that on October 2, 2006 a new Charter Application for the North Reading High School Interact Club was submitted and approved, with 109 students being listed as Charter Members, and one new member bring the total to 110 as of December 19, 2006.

At the beginning of the school year for 2007 & 2008 the club had an active membership of 97 members and has remain constant or gained in membership every year since.

Interact Club Makes

A Difference

North Reading High School offers many extra-curricular club, sports, and activities. There are so many that every student can find something they enjoy. There is also a club in which all members of the North Reading community can take part in and contribute to. It is the North Reading High School's Interact Club.

The goal of the Interact Club is for the student body to get involved with the local community through community service projects and events. Members participate in a minimum of 10 hours of community service a year, partaking in activities like pie baking, leaf raking, and caroling.

Another huge part of the Interact Club, in the North Reading High School, is its involvement with EMARC (The Arc of East Middlesex). Members of the club attend dances, craft nights, gym nights, swinm lessons, bowling days and more with many amazing mentally and physically challenged children and teens involved in the program. This is a wonderful opportunity for the youth of North Reading to make a huge difference in other peoples's lives.

Any North Reading High School student can become a member of the Interact Club by just attending the beginning of the year meetings and signing up. All meetings are announced in the school and aren't hard to miss. Community service hours earned can go towards the graduation required hours. Even non-mambers of the Interact Club can participate in the Interact Club's event to both have a great time and gain service hours.

The more members the Interact Club has the more good it can do for North Reading; when you join you will make a difference.
