On June 29, 2011, District 7930 held it's District Installation

 for the incoming officers 2011-2012

who officially take office on July 1,2011

AS you can see the gavel was passed and most were smiling. Even Swami is noted to be smiling but appears to be a little apprehesive about taking the gavel from now PDG Steve. (We think that Steve might have siad some thing to Swami. Ya Think?)

 

 

As the next morning's sun came up now PDG Steve May could be seen riding off looking for the sunset to ride off into. All good things do come to an end. But at the same time there are also good things that are just beginning. The District has a new Governor and the North Reading Club has a new President.

for the installation of a refrigeration unit at the North Reading Food Pantry.

 

 

 

    Our guest speaker, Mr. Tony Sampaio made a         President Peter Majane presents Tony with

At our meeting on July 20, 2011 a new Rotarian was inducted as the newest member of

the Rotary Club of North Reading. Mr. Shep Spear, in the center, a North Reading resident and President of Londonderry Homecrafters, Inc., is inducted as one of the newest members of Rotary International by our Club Treasurer and Installing Officer David O'Oneil (right) as Club President Peter Majane, on the left, observes.

PRIOR TO OUR REGULAR MEETING

Our club finished up months of fund-raising and saw it's efforts come to fuition when the Club donated two refrigeration units to the North Reading Food Pantry.

 

While local high school students helped the Rotary Club by making phone calls to raise funds in November and February, local restaurants donated pizzas to keep the students going.

The Club also wishes to thank Andrea's House of Pizza, Catain Pizza, Kitty's Restaurant, Mario's Pizza and the Pizza Guys for providing energy to keep the students productive.

 

Buiding and installation of the refrigeration cabinets was donated by Dan Brosseau of Brosseau Construction and Bob Vardaro of Vardaro Electric donated his labor to do the electrical wiring.

 

"This was a team effort among the Rotarians, high school students working on a community service project, local restaurants, Dan Brosseau, Bob Vardaro and Sandy Carriker of the Food Pantry," said Past President Doug Mercurio who headed up the project.

 

"We are so gratefull for this wonderful gift from the Rotary Club," said Director of the Food Pantry Sandy Carriker. "We now have the opportunity for more resources and to have perishable items on hand to offer to locat families."

 

The Rotary Club also held two successful trivia nights at the Hillview Country Club in the fall and spring, resulting in raising enough money to purchase the refrigeration units," said Rotary President Peter Majane. "We plan on upcoming fund-raisers to raise money for other worthwhile projects this year."

After lunch and brief introductions made by Principal Jon Bernard, from

the North reading High School and Superintendent Kathleen Willis, three

$1,000 scholarships were awarded to the seniors from the

garduating class of 2011.

A very special guest

at the meeting on August 24, 2011

 

Past District Governor Ernestine Luise from Rotary International District 7980, located in

Conneticut, pays our club a visit while she is at the Rotary Zone Institute, which

is being held at the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston.

Ernie, as she is affectionately called, is seen on the right holding a trading

banner from her club and Peter Majane, our President, is holding a club banner

from the North Reading Club, which they are about to exchange.

 

 

 

Both PDG Ernie and President Peter as noted above exchanging club banners.

This is a traditional event when Rotarians visit other Rotary clubs.

Events such as this can be noted in everyone of the 34,000 Rotary Clubs

worldwide.

In the background you will note a banner containing similar banners that have been

presented to our club, from other visiting Rotarians, in the past.

on September 7, 2011

 

Our District Governor Subbiah Doraiswami delivers a few words regarding the mission

of our Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee.

Our guest speaker and President of the Rotary Club of Chandigarh, India, Neena Singh,

describes her home town and some of the functions and activities of her club.

(RIP Kalyan Banerjee, DG SWami and President Neena all have two common factors

that join them together: 1 - They are all Rotarians and 2 - They are all from India.)

      

    A long standing Rotary Tradition.

There was not an empty chair in the room.


At our meeting on September 21st our Guest speaker was

Mr. Christopher Sullivan, Administrator of the Meadow View Care and Rehabilitation Center, in North Reading.

 

Mr. Sullian is seen on the right as President Peter observes and the attendess

soaked up the information about the factility.

On November 1, 2011, the North Reading Club

held the first meeting of it's Satellite Dinner Club

at the Hill View Country Club.

.

The Satellite Club is a new Rotary Interation project meant to enhance the

membership by giving them different alternatives for meetings.

This new Satellite Club will give North Reading both a lunch club and an

evening dinner club. The dinner club will be meeting every Tuesday

evening at 6:00 PM at the Hill View.

.

 

Mr. Michael Scannell, a prospective member from NORCAM, has a freindly dicussion with

member Joe Todisco who is the manager of the Reading Cooperative Bank.

Also noted, from center to the right are Christine Todisco, Joe's wife, David O'Neil, our

     Sgt Michael P. Murphy who will be our next          Sgt. Thomas Romeo (center rear) who was

     FBI Academy in January prior his taking office.

 

Sgt Murphy will be replacing our current Chief of Police, Edward Nolan when he retires. Sgt. Murphy has expressed a desire to join the North Reading Club once he becomes Chief.
